Magazine Covers
Early Magazine Covers
American Magazine of Useful and Entertaining Knowledge, 1835
The magazine cover is only in black and white. The picture takes up only a small portion of the cover where as the magazines in our days take up the whole cover. The text is small all except the title and it also gives off the authors.
The Poster Cover
Vogue, 1917
The picture is bigger but still doesn't take up the whole cover. The cover only shows some color not a wide variety of colors, plus the picture is just a drawing, not a portrait.
Pictures Married to Types
McClure's, 1916
The picture takes up the whole cover and the photo looks more realistic than the other photos, the writing is clear but it's hard to see the title, which by the way, takes up a lot of the top.
In the Forest of Words
Music, 1998
The picture shows more colors and it looks more brighter and happy. There is also a bar code on the bottom, the title is clearly shown on the top and it looks a lot more detailed than older versions of magazines.

4. "Elizabeth Taylor: Farewell to a Legend" Formal. Favorite. Time and again, readers turn to People for our take on the defining moments in pop culture—and this year, a major story was the death of one of the greatest movie stars of all time, Elizabeth Taylor. The iconic shot selected for the cover from the archives of famed photographer Philippe Halsman, taken when Taylor was just 16 years old, reminded fans of the beauty and grace that would often become overshadowed by her much-documented, tumultuous personal life. With few words needed, this People cover provided a truly worthy farewell to a legend.
This magazine cover is my favorite because it shows a lot of mood in the photo. What the subject is wearing makes the viewer look morally towards the subject instead of anything in the background. The lighting in the background makes the photo more interesting because it puts the lighting in all the right places.

Magazine Tips
It glows in vivid colors that will inevitably turn disappointingly dull when printed in ink. A hard-copy printout may be closer.
-Photo on the computer screen will be different than how it'll look printed out.
Intellectually stimulating, interesting
-Make the photo subject interesting.
Worst of all, it is virtual. It is just an illusory likeness of the physical paper product that your potential buyer will ultimately be holding. If you are producing magazines on paper, think and remain conscious of “paperness” all the time.
-Your skill on the screen is different than how it would be on paper.
