Front Pages of the World

My favorite front page would be the "Star Advertiser" from Honolulu. The reason for this would be because it's very colorful, it has a border that's bright and colorful but the main point is that it's an eye catcher unlike many other colorless newspapers, for example, the Austin Statesmen.

My favorite headline would be "Piecing it Together" this is because it's very catchy, the font is very big and it's obviously their top story.

I only liked the one story because it was the only thing interesting due to proximity since every event in the newspaper is in Hawaii.

They all have a main picture and with that picture, the title is hu

7 News Values

Timeliness  -- the newness of the facts.

The reason this story was used as an example for timeliness is because it happened around noon, which is a very recent story.

Proximity – the nearness of a given event to your place of publication.

Possible shooting reported in South Austin

The reason this story was used as an example for proximity is because it is very near where I live, it is in the same area.

Prominence – the “newsworthiness” of an individual, organization or place.

The reason this story was used as an example for prominence is because this is directed to the people who own firearms or those who want to own a firearm.

Conflict – the meeting of two or more opposing forces. These forces can be physical, emotional or philosophical.

Magazine Covers

Early Magazine Covers
American Magazine of Useful and Entertaining Knowledge, 1835

The magazine cover is only in black and white. The picture takes up only a small portion of the cover where as the magazines in our days take up the whole cover. The text is small all except the title and it also gives off the authors.

The Poster Cover
Vogue, 1917

The picture is bigger but still doesn't take up the whole cover. The cover only shows some color not a wide variety of colors, plus the picture is just a drawing, not a portrait.

Pictures Married to Types
McClure's, 1916

The picture takes up the whole cover and the photo looks more realistic than the other photos, the writing is clear but it's hard to see the title, which by the way, takes up a lot of the top.

In the Forest of Words
Music, 1998

The picture shows more colors and it looks more brighter and happy. There is also a bar code on the bottom, the title is clearly shown on the top and it looks a lot more detailed than older versions of magazines.

Best Covers

1. "Is She Just To Old for This?" Formal

7. "Is She Just Too Old for This?" Formal
8.  "Cleopatra" Formal
9. "Pride" Formal
10. "Mila Kunis" Formal
11. "Grill, Baby, Grill" Environmental

14.  "Above Yosemite" Environmental
15. "Hope Solo" Environmental
16. "Wild and Wonderful Things" Environmental
17. "The Fashion Issue" Formal

4. "Elizabeth Taylor: Farewell to a Legend" Formal. Favorite. Time and again, readers turn to People for our take on the defining moments in pop culture—and this year, a major story was the death of one of the greatest movie stars of all time, Elizabeth Taylor. The iconic shot selected for the cover from the archives of famed photographer Philippe Halsman, taken when Taylor was just 16 years old, reminded fans of the beauty and grace that would often become overshadowed by her much-documented, tumultuous personal life. With few words needed, this People cover provided a truly worthy farewell to a legend.
This magazine cover is my favorite because it shows a lot of mood in the photo. What the subject is wearing makes the viewer look morally towards the subject instead of anything in the background. The lighting in the background makes the photo more interesting because it puts the lighting in all the right places.

Magazine Tips

It glows in vivid colors that will inevitably turn disappointingly dull when printed in ink. A hard-copy printout may be closer.
-Photo on the computer screen will be different than how it'll look printed out.

Intellectually stimulating, interesting
-Make the photo subject interesting.

Worst of all, it is virtual. It is just an illusory likeness of the physical paper product that your potential buyer will ultimately be holding. If you are producing magazines on paper, think and remain conscious of “paperness” all the time.
-Your skill on the screen is different than how it would be on paper.

Summary

For myself, I believe I will lead my future to do Graphic Design. For this, I'll probably be taking tech classes and art. I also want to be involved in Writing so I'll be taking writing classes as well, like free story. There are many things that I want my future to hold and it's kind of bad not knowing what I really want to do for the rest of my life.

My Holiday

1. One thing that has happened during my break was that my birthday popped up. For that my family took me out to dinner at Olive Garden, there we had the meal of our lives.
2. My New Years Resolution is to higher my GPA to at least a 3.5, meaning I would have to get all A's this year for this to somewhat happen.
3. I am looking forward to better music.

2012 in Review

1. I don't think I have a favorite song for 2012, the reason why this is is because all there mostly was on the radio was artists making horrid auto tuned music about drugs, sex, or money. There are some songs that were okay in this year, but were overplayed because the radio doesn't have that many top "hits" (because the music they were looking for was top artists with crappy music) and they have to overplay songs to keep the radio going. Another reason I don't have a favorite song is because the music in 2012 downright sucked, the music on the radio had a whole bunch of songs that were about 9 months ago, for example "Sexy & I Know It" still plays on the radio, most people are sick of hearing it daily. It's like the radio doesn't know how to pick their music anymore, and after seeing what they were playing on the radio this year, they don't.
2. My favorite movie for the year 2012 was most definitely 21 Jump Street. That movie has made me cry from the scene where the protagonists were high from the drug they were taking because I was laughing so hard. This movie has won my heart after the showed Johnny Depp (who is UNCREDITED) in the shooting scene. This movie was just amazing and I recommend it for anyone who's in for a good comedy.
3. The most important story of the year in my opinion was the School Shooting in Connecticut. During 3rd period on the day of the shooting everyone cried out that there was a shooting going on. This pumped everyone up and almost everyone started watching the new on newly updates in what happened during the shooting. The shooting affected the nation knowing that someone was sick enough to put children in danger all because of his sick mind. It also brought the President to say something about it, which was pretty big.
4. The most important person would have had to be the leader of our nation, President Obama. He won the election twice, some people may disagree about his ways and I know I do too but he's the only person I can think of.
5. I don't watch sports.

Favorite Photos of 2012

This is one out of three favorite photos of the year because the scenery of the photo is beautiful. The mist from the fallen water adds more interest in the photo making it more appealing to the eye.
This is another one of three favorite photos of the year because like the first, the scenery is eye-popping. The photographer either added a vintage affect on the photo or took the photo at the right time of day, this makes the lighting makes some of the colors pop out more.
This is the last but not least of my favorite photos of the year because photographer used an effect or took the photo at a nice moment to make the photo look more as a cartoon scene that a realistic scene making the photo more unique.
